.post college weekends.

First of all, let me just say how excited I am that fall weather has finally arrived.  I'm hoping it'll stick around for awhile.  I think I could live somewhere it was fall all year long.  High 60s, colorful trees, clear blue skies, and mountains.  I need there to be mountains.
Now that autumn has decided to show up, I have to go camping.  So much to do, so little time.  See this is why the season that is fall needs to be longer.

Anyway.

Like I said the other day, I went to Knoxville for the weekend.  It was so nice to get away for a couple days, and to spend time with Natalie!  I may miss the college life a little, but Nat and I were discussing how wonderful weekends are now.  We can spend our weekends doing whatever we want/have to do, and we don't have to worry about homework!  It's awesome.

So with no homework to worry about, we spent the weekend celebrating fall by driving around and taking pictures.  Oh and by sleeping in, watching tv, and being plain lazy.  I loved it.

this one makes me miss texas. the field,
the gate, and the long driveway.

a barn with a red roof? i'm in love.

and this is why we are friends.

it's fall. you've got an old rusty white chevy and plaid shirts. what do you do? photoshoot. of course.

  love you nat.

   later y'all.

.3 things.

1. This week I learned that kids back in the day would catch june bugs (gross), tie thread to their legs, and fly them around.  I understand putting lightning bugs in a jar..that's fun.  Catching june bugs?  Not so much.

a big ol' bunch of nasty.

I gotta jar, gotta jar full of sunshine...
get it? no? that's ok. bad joke.

2. In less than 2 months, I get to fly to sunny San Diego to see my brother.

did you say CALIFORNIA?

oh hey, drew.
...........................................................................................................................

3. THIS weekend I'm making the journey to a far off land called Knoxville.  The people in this place all wear orange.  It's very strange.  But the important part is that I get to see this person:

we're gonna wear big sunglasses, rock out to some justin bieber, laugh till we cry, and try not to run over any bikers.  they are EVERYWHERE. right nat?

ok weekend.

ready. set. go.

.planting trees.

"So many years from now long after we are gone, these trees will spread their branches out and bless the dawn.  These trees will spread their branches out and bless someone."
- Andrew Peterson -

Since I can remember, I've had spiritual mentors in my life.  Growing up in a Christian home, my parents were the primary encouragers of my walk with the Lord.  They've never stopped speaking the truth to me, even when I don't want to hear it.

Hilton Head trip.  Yes I was wearing tie dye.  I was at the beach.  Give me a break.

The summer after my freshman year of high school I spend out in Colorado working at Eagle Lake Camp.  I highly recommend this camp by the way.  Parents, send your kids here.  It might be the best experience they ever have.

Anyway, my counselor that summer was the one and only Allison Miranda Daniell.  I stole this picture from her facebook. Hope you don't mind, Al. :)

I learned so much from Allison that summer.  I learned how to study the Word so much more deeply.  I was taught the "Navigator's" way of studying...although I'm pretty sure I need a refresher course.  Where are those notes?  Hmmm.  I was reminded of the importance of patience and serving as I scooped and hauled horse poop everywhere.  There were a lot of obstacles to overcome that summer, but that's a whole different story for another time.  The point is...Allison was incredibly influential in my spiritual growth.  Not only that year, but the next summer as well.  However, she wasn't my counselor that second year in Colorado.

The fearless Carrie Campbell was my counselor and Bible study leader that summer.  I'm pretty sure that was my favorite small group. Ever.  I learned so much from those girls.

Bible study bonding nights were the best...especially when you have tea parties...or boston tea parties.  Don't ask why I have a cowboy hat on..or why I look like a boy in this picture.  I don't know.

Last, but certainly not least, is Lindsey.  She was my swimming coach in high school, we became friends, and she started discipling me.  Lindsey has poured so much time into my life.  We met through the rest of my high school years, her first daughter being born, her second daughter being born, and all my college years.  We've studied so much together, and our time has meant the world to me.  I am forever thankful for her encouragement and leadership over the past several years.

All this to say that I'm SOOO excited to be leading a core group this year!  I have major shoes to fill.  This is Natalie.  She lead my core group girls last year, and now that she's not living in Chatt, I have the privilege of taking over her group.

After years of people pouring into my life, I have the opportunity to encourage and lead other girls as we study the Word.  I can't wait to see where this year takes us, and what the Lord teaches us.  It's a gift to be able to lead and encourage others, and I hope they will someday do the same for someone else.

Don't worry.  Pictures of core group girls will be coming soon.  Stay tuned.

.begin again.

My favorite time of the year is almost here.  Autumn.  There are three leaves that have turned to a glorious burnt orange on a maple tree outside my window.  I'm pretty sure they are just there to tease me.

This is my first fall season in four years that I'm not returning to school with the rest of my fellow college students.

Why?

Well because I GRADUATED.  So this fall will be a whole new experience for me.  A brand new start in this place they call the Real World.  Trust me. It's scary. Stay in college, kids. Just kidding.  Kind of.

I'm very excited about this part of life.  Right now, only working part time, I'm given the gift of TIME.  Time to exercise (much needed), time to look for a design job, time to read, time to grow in my walk with the Lord, and time to spend with some of my favorite people.

Speaking of favorite people, here's one of them...

This is my cousin Laney.

You can check out her blog here: http://lrutht.blogspot.com/.  She takes amazing pictures...and I'm not just saying that because I'm biased.  She's really talented.

We hiked miles and miles to take pictures.  Ok so we drove to a park.  Whatever.

Looking at these pictures, I am amazed at the beautiful young woman Laney has become.  She used to be this little girl that would cry because she couldn't keep up with her brothers and me (love you Laney), and now she's driving.

Eeek.

Just kidding Laney.  You are a fantastic driver....even though I've only been able to bring myself to ride with you once.  Don't worry.  I'll get used to it.  Someday.

I love this girl.  She's not just my cousin.  She's a best friend.  She's a sister.

Oh and she's the one that told me I should start a blog, so I thought it was only fitting for the first post to be about her. :)

Later y'all.
