music & lyrics | currently listening to...

i've been slowly adding some new music to my library over the past couple of months, but last week i went all out. apparently it was "buy-all-the-albums" week. sorry if y'all missed out. ;) let me break it down for you. here are five albums you need to purchase immediately. it'll be the best thing you do all day. promise.

ellie holcomb | as sure as the sun
this album is full of grace and truth. i bought it the day it was released, listened on my lunch break, and cried the whole way through. every single lyric is laced with scripture and soothing to the soul. just what every heart needs.

judah and the lion | first fruits & sweet tennessee
both of these albums are so good, y'all. first fruits was their first ep and contains some really beautiful and fun worship music. sweet tennessee is an album that would make you feel southern even if you weren't from the south. it's music that will make you sing, clap, and stomp your feet. these guys opened for drew holcomb and the neighbors when they were in chattanooga a couple weeks ago, and i'm not going to lie, i would have been okay with them playing all night. it was like a perfect slice of southern heaven.

needtobreathe | rivers in the wasteland
i LOVE this new album of needtobreathe's! there is something about experiencing new melodies for the first time. i sat and listened to this one all the way through and felt like i'd been on a journey. it is a great one...one of my favorites of theirs. a friend and i are looking to see them live at some point this year. wanna come with us? great! the more the merrier.

rend collective | the art of celebration
i just posted about this one last week! this whole album feels like one big party. as they say "heaven's going to be the greatest party of all time and we need to start practicing now." every single song is filled with joy and hope and a beautiful picture of Christ. it carries with it the reminder that we should be choosing joy daily and celebrating the freedom we have in Jesus. amen? amen!

p.s. if you like their music, i highly encourage you to support these artists by buying their albums and not just listening for free on spotify and such. ;) #musiciansgottaeat plus, you are going to want to have these tunes on hand to listen to over and over in the car, or at the beach, or while you're getting ready in the mornings, or heck, while you're washing dishes. kitchen dance parties, am i right?

what's on your playlist these days?

needtobreathe is my all time favorite band. I have heard them live 4 times, and have every album (except their newest one) on my phone, computer as well as on vinyl to play on our record player. I also got to meet one of the guys in the band judah & the lion at one of the needtobreathe concerts haha...so crazy. We stood next to each other at the concert and we ended up introducing ourselves to him and his friend because they looks so cool with their beards haha...they had driven from nashville to starkville, MS to hear needtobreathe! great music selection!

Thanks for the awesome recommendations! Listening to Ellie Holcomb right now and will check out the rest later. But I am already in love!
Also, I love your shout out at the end. With all the great free options we sometimes forget that #musiciansgottaeat (love the hashtag) and don't buy as many albums as before. I'm always trying to support my favorite artist by at least buying a couple of albums every year. But a reminder is always good.

i am so glad, friend. it was exactly what i needed last week, too. and this week...and forever. :)

what! that is hilarious! did you meet nate?...he has a pretty epic beard. needtobreathe is going to be in atlanta, knoxville, and nashville at different times this year, so we are trying to decide when/where we want to go!

she is such a gem, right?
and yes ma'am! we've gotta support the artists we love! :)

So I am just starting to realize that Judah & the Lion is pretty famous! I grew up with Nate the banjo player (if you ever meet him again, he knows me by name) and have seen the band progress! It is so exciting (and I feel like a total hipster) because I knew them from the beginnings!!! lol.

you are such a hipster, beth ;)

LOVE all of these! I haven't heard of judah & the lion, but I will definitely be checking them out! :)
We have somewhat discussed my love of NTB. I have seen them 3 times I believe and every time has been amazing. They are literally the best live show I have seen. Although, I just saw Rend Collective and they were a VERY close tie! :) I'm hoping to catch NTB on their tour this fall when they come close to me again! :)

All right, we are going to be instantly best friends :) love your music tastes and totally dig your reviews of the albums! We got to work with two of them alongside our non-profit and it was an absolute joy! They really walk the talk (cliche i know!) but for reals they do. Good folks! So good!

I've had NeedtoBreathe's new album on repeat ALL week. Can't get enough of it. I just bookmarked Judah & The Lion to listen to. I'm so bad about buying music, even though I worked in the music industry for years. BUT I'm prepping for a ladies' road trip this weekend, which could be the perfect excuse!

Megan McIlvaine said...

i have listened to them over and over!! i just keep it on in my car all the time :) and yes! road trips are ALWAYS a good excuse to get some new music!
