MUSIC & LYRICS | DREW HOLCOMB & THE NEIGHBORS

I used to share my favorite music with you guys all the time and haven't done that in a while. I miss it, and maybe you do too. Music is one of my favorite things in the entire world. It's one of the things that speaks most deeply to me and stirs my soul. Music brings back memories, brings me comfort, brings me laughter, and brings me to tears. It has a way of reaching into the depths of my heart and affecting each of my emotions all at once.

Drew Holcomb and the Neighbor's newest album, Medicine, was released this week. American Beauty is one of my favorites off the new album, and I have been listening to it on repeat. It's soft and sweet, reminiscent of a time gone by. Take a listen and let me know what you think!

5 THINGS TO DO IN ANIMAL KINGDOM

disney, walt disney world, animal kingdom, disney world

Hello friends! Today I'm back with another Disney installment as I share my favorite rides, restaurants, sites, and shows from our trip. During our recent Disney World extravaganza, we spent the majority of our first day in Animal Kingdom. Between waiting in lines, going to shows, and riding our favorites, we didn't actually DO a lot in that park, but we did the things we really enjoyed. One of the things I especially loved about Animal Kingdom is that you truly feel like you've time traveled to whatever country you are visiting. Disney does such a great job at transforming a space and creating an atmosphere that makes you forget where you are and draws you into the story.

1 | EXPEDITION EVEREST
Take an exciting ride through the Himalayan mountains, but keep an eye out for the Abominable Snowman! AKA the Yeti. Even if you have to stand in line for a bit for this ride, they make it worth your wait. I love how Disney transforms the line into a journey through another world or time, and according to someone we overheard "waiting is half the fun!" Too true, Disney traveler. Too true.

2 | FINDING NEMO - THE MUSICAL
I've already established multiple times that I love musicals and you're probably sick of hearing about it. Sorry I'm not sorry. The Finding Nemo musical was so fun and a must see for the young and the young at heart. You'll want to sing and dance along as the characters sing and swim in and out of the audience.

disney, walt disney world, animal kingdom, disney world

3 | FESTIVAL OF THE LION KING
Oh. My. Goodness. You must, MUST go see this show. The costumes are wonderful, the acrobatic monkeys are incredibly entertaining, and the music will sweep you away to the Pride Lands. I'm not lying when I say I teared up a couple of times during the performance. It was so fun and beautiful!

4 | DINOSAUR RIDE
This ride is the bomb. If you've ever been to Disneyland, it's the equivalent of the Indiana Jones ride. We went on the Dino ride three times because we loved it so much. The first time, I had my hands covering my eyes the entire ride...that made for a great photo at the end. ;) Dinosaurs jumping out of everywhere scaring me! One of my favorite parts about the ride is the video from the 90s that they play before you even get ON the ride. Ha!

disney, walt disney world, animal kingdom

5 | KILIMANJARO SAFARIS
Who doesn't love safaris? You get to take a ride through the African savanna, exploring the various habitats, and hanging out with your favorite African animals. Lions and giraffes and elephants, oh my! You truly feel like you have been transported to that part of the world. I kind of forgot we were at Disney World for a little bit! Hop on board and enjoy the adventure!

WEEKEND UPDATE

RECAPS
1 | Home sweet home. It was a gorgeous weekend in Chattanooga. My best friend was in town and we attended a friend's baby shower, ate yummy food, walked around downtown, went to see Into the Woods (I liked it a lot better the second time), watched Seven Brides for Seven Brothers TWICE (Nat had only seen it once when she was little), and arranged/staged the shelves above my work desk at home. It was a fun and productive weekend!

2 | Official blog photog. Nat and I joke that she is my official blog photographer because I have her take style photos for me when she's in town. We ran out Sunday afternoon to snap a few photos for a post coming up! I love having her take photos because she has an idea of what she wants and I'm not afraid to be myself in front of the camera...maybe a little "too" myself since she constantly has to tell me to make a normal face. ;)

3 | Truth for your walls. I received this beautiful canvas from Naptime Diaries in the mail last week. I wanted it for my room as a constant reminder that Jesus is my life and light, and I am also to live my life as a light for him.

4 | Notes of encouragement. I love sending snail mail but have been a little slack lately. I am working on consistently sending more mail full of words of encouragement for my friends! P.S. Don't miss the stationary giveaway we've got going on!

12 THINGS TO DO IN MAGIC KINGDOM

disney, walt disney world, animal kingdom, disney world

In case you happened to miss it, I went to Disney World the week before Christmas with some of my best friends. I'm sharing some of my favorite rides, restaurants, sites, and shows with you one park at a time. Last week was Epcot and now we move on to another favorite! During our Disney adventures, we spent a lot of time at Magic Kingdom. I love that park so much. From Adventureland to Tomorrowland to Fantasyland to so many others, Magic Kingdom has a lot to offer. We've got a lot to cover, so let's get started!

1 | TAKE ADVANTAGE OF EXTRA MAGIC HOURS
One of the things I loved about staying at a Disneyworld resort were the extra magic hour perks.  On various days, each Disney park opens either an hour earlier or is open later for guests staying at a Disney resort. We really took advantage of this at Magic Kingdom. There were two evenings where the park was open until 3AM for resort guests, and we would stay until 2ish. Yes it was late, and yes we were exhausted, but it was so fun because the park was seemingly empty. Lines were short and we got to go on a lot more rides in a short period of time. Definitely check the schedule for extra magic hours on your next Disney trip!

2 | EAT AT CINDERELLA'S CASTLE
In order to eat at Cinderella's Castle, you must have a reservation. For those of you using a dining plan, just know this takes up two dining credits per person. Don't worry...you'll still have enough food for the rest of your time at Disney. You'll need to make your reservation far in advance. They were booked for dinner reservations during our stay, so we made a reservation for lunch time instead. :) You get your photo taken with Cinderella and they give you prints for each person in your party. They refer to you as "lady" and "lord" and it is hilarious. Various princesses arrive at the castle and come visit with your table while you are eating. We kind of got a case of the giggles each time a Disney princess stopped by our table...you just had to be there. The atmosphere is really fun and the food was delicious!

disney, walt disney world, animal kingdom, disney world

3 | EAT AT BE OUR GUEST
If you're wanting to do dinner at Belle's castle, you must make reservations and make them in advance. I'm talking at least six months in advance...maybe more. This one books up very quickly. You can also do lunch at Belle's castle, but you may or may not be able to get in. When we were there at Christmas, they didn't have a standby list you could be put on for lunch. You just had to keep going back to ask if they were allowing more people in to dine. We eventually made it in for lunch, and I'm so glad we did! You can choose to eat in the ballroom, east wing, or west wing. Each section is perfectly decorated and so magical!

4 | SEVEN DWARFS MINE TRAIN
This roller coaster just recently opened and we ran to get in line first thing on our first morning in Magic Kingdom. Even when you have to wait in line, they make it fun for you with a couple of games throughout the mines. If that isn't enough entertainment for you, just whistle Heigh Ho to your heart's content. The ride is super fun and perfect for all ages!

5 | PETER PAN'S FLIGHT
Second star to the right and straight on til morning! This is one of the classics. It's been recently renovated and looks so great! The line takes you through the Darling house as you wait to board your very own flying pirate ship that will take you on an adventure above London and off to Neverland! I wanted to do this ride all week and we waited until our very last night to make it happen. I'm so glad we went...it's such a nostalgiac ride and I loved it! P.S. You might want to Fastpass this ride if you don't want to wait in line...or you can just go late at night like we did!

6 | SPLASH MOUNTAIN
I put this ride off for days because I didn't want to get soaking wet and then walk around the parks for the rest of the day. My friends kept begging me to go, so on our last night, I gave in. It was around 1:30 in the morning, it was raining, and I was already cold, so I figured why not?? It was SO MUCH fun. The big drop at the end feels like it lasts forever and then you get doused by the water you practically just dove into. ;) As soon as the ride was over, I immediately wanted to go again. This one is now a must on my list.

7 | GRAB A SNACK
Don't forget to grab some of the famous Dole Whip. It is so delicious! Or if you're wanting to go with another Disney snack classic, the Mickey pretzel will do just fine.

8 | PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN
You can't go to Disneyworld and skip out on the Pirates ride. It's another classic, and it's one of those chill rides you can do when you need a little break. I'd go on this one more than once just so I could take everything in. There are so many details and Jack Sparrow is eerily lifelike. Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.

9 | JUNGLE CRUISE
Okay, so at Christmastime, they change the ride's name to the "Jingle Cruise." Punny, right? If you like puns, and you like the jungle, this ride is for you. Just ask for our BFF Joshua. He tells all the best jokes. Oh and go on the ride at night. It's a little more adventurous that way. :)

10 | MICKEY'S PHILHARMAGIC
Take a break, grab a seat, and enjoy a 3D musical in Mickey's PhilharMagic. This will take you on an adventure through several Disney animated musical scenes. I may or may not have almost fallen asleep, but that is not because I was bored. Disney music is soothing to me, okay?

11 | HAUNTED MANSION
Oh dear, the Haunted Mansion. The ride is not scary at all, but the people who work the ride are a different story. While we were in the "waiting room" to get onto the ride, one of the workers, covered in creepy makeup, scared us good. The girls were all huddled around Bruce, terrified out of our minds. We were laughing and screaming and hoping we could get on the ride soon. Props to you, Haunted Mansion lady. You got us.

disney, walt disney world, animal kingdom, disney world, frozen

12 | NIGHT SHOWS
The light show is incredible and you can't miss it! Tinker Bell sprinkles the Cinderella Castle with pixie dust that turns the castle into the canvas for the show. The castle is lit up to portray scenes and sequences from various Disney movies, and it is magical! I stood there in complete wonder the whole time. You also have got to stay for the Wishes Nighttime Spectacular, which occurs just after the light show. You'll see an amazing fireworks show and listen to your favorite Disney tunes during the entire performance!

WEEKEND UPDATE

RECAPS
1 | My sugar tooth has a sugar tooth. I kind of love sweets. Sorry I'm not sorry. I met up with my cousin last week at The Hot Chocolatier for coffee and dessert. If you are ever passing through Chattanooga, be sure to swing by and grab something for the road!

2 | I need to up my running game. So on Saturday, I had a movie night in with my friends Todd and Alex. We grabbed some pizza and ran by Redbox to pick up The Maze Runner. Have y'all seen it? It ended and I immediately said that I needed to read the books. I ordered them from Amazon as soon as I got home. Haha! Also, I decided I need to up my running game just in case I ever get put in a crazy maze, or you know, maybe the hunger games. #alwaysbeprepared

3 | Winter days. Winter in Tennessee means a lot of cloudy, gloomy, rainy days. Thankfully, one of those days last week was a snow day! It snowed all afternoon, but it wasn't cold enough outside for it to stick around. Sad day. We had a couple of sunny days last week and I soaked them up as much as I could. Gotta get that Vitamin D when you can!

4 | Babies, babies, babies. I got to go visit my coworker and her baby again last week. He is just the sweetest little guy. So many adorable rolls and such an expressive face. Several of my friends are having babies in the upcoming months, and I'm busy with finding perfect baby gifts and planning and attending baby showers.

AND I WAS LIKE BABY, BABY, BABY...

Please tell me that title made you start singing an old Bieber tune we all used to know...because that would make me giggle. ;) A couple of months ago, a sweet friend of mine asked me to help her with a photography project. I immediately agreed to help, and I didn't even know what it was for! Ha! Come to find out, she was preggers with her second baby, and wanted photos of her two year old to use for the reveal. :) We met during the middle of the week at a park near my work, and I snapped away while her adorable little lady ran around. It was so fun trying to capture her joy and excitement. Kids are fun to photograph because they are so uninhibited. Sure, they can be camera shy, but for the most part, their true personality tends to shine through because they aren't afraid to be themselves!

Little A has such a precious personality, gives the best compliments, has the prettiest blue eyes in all the land, and is going to be a wonderful big sister! Can't wait to meet the newest addition to their family! So many of my friends are having babies soon, and I am so excited to celebrate with the new parents and to hold and love on all of the new little babes. :)

A COFFEE DATE | VOL. 2

It's been a while since we last sat down to have coffee, and I'm so excited to see you! You'll walk in out of the rain, I'll wave you over and slide your favorite drink across the table as I sip on a white chocolate mocha. A must-have to warm my spirits in the winter months.

We'll start with the regular chit chat. How was your day? How was work? Did you see that hilarious Jimmy Fallon video? "Which one?" you'll ask, because they are all hilarious. We'll giggle over all the incredibly hilarious and awkward parts, and I'll laugh so hard tears may run down my face. It feels good to laugh like that.

I'll tell you about work, and how we are entering our super crazy season where I have to remind myself to breathe. Taking it one email and one project at a time. #theofficelife. I'll tell you that the post-Christmas winter is hard for me because there is just not enough sunshine to go around, and girl, do I need my sunshine. Where's that Vitamin D, amiright?

Because I don't always love talking about myself, I'll turn the conversation back to you. I'll ask how you're doing with the big cross-country move coming up this week, or how you are feeling in the midst of what seems like a mid-life crisis, or how your mama's doctor appointment went. I'll grab your hand as the tears and the fears well up, and I'll nod because I have them too, but we'll rest in the promises that Jesus is strong even when we can't be, that he has a plan, and that he is the ultimate healer of our bodies and the redeemer of our souls. And because all of my friends are having babies right now, we'll talk about your baby and how the plans for the nursery are coming along. You might try to get me to spill the beans on all the baby shower planning, but I am like a vault, friend, and you aren't getting any details from me! It is going to be a surprise! :)

You'll ask me about the plans I have for this year. Where I want to go and what I want to accomplish. I'll tell you how excited I am to be in my little sister's wedding next month, standing alongside her and some dear friends as she promises her life to the one she loves. I'll squeal a little when I tell you that in March I'm going to New York to visit a friend I've never actually met in real life, but that I feel like I've known forever. The rest of the year is currently unplanned and I kind of like it that way. I love getting to dream and plan as the year goes along...filling up my calendar with adventures both big and small. I'll say I'm excited to pursue my hobbies more this year by taking a photography class or two, trying my hand at drawing again, and creating quality content for my blog as that space grows. I'm excited to make new friends this year, to strengthen the friendships I've already been given, and to cultivate an encouraging community.

A comfortable silence will settle as we both prepare to dive into what's really weighing on our hearts. The things that go deeper than the every day.

I'll tell you that life weighs heavier some days more than others, and you'll nod your head because you know. I'll laugh at myself when I tell you how I sat on the cold basement floor this weekend, surrounded by old design projects, and cried my eyes out as I looked at reminders of a shattered dream. It was surprisingly emotional and yet freeing to get rid of some of that stuff. Moving on in life and facing the unknown with confidence is a challenging thing to do. I want this year to be one full of grace. Grace that I offer to others and to myself. I want my heart to be gentle and gracious and patient and kind. Those are qualities I have to pray for every single day. I'll tell you that at church on Sunday I was reminded that God is, in fact, more concerned for my well being than I am, even when it doesn't always feel that way. His goodness goes far beyond anything I will ever know. He understands, he accepts, he provides, he carries, he delivers, and I shall not want.

The rain outside has turned into a misty mess. The kind that makes your hair frizzy by just looking at it. I'll sigh and take the last sip of that white chocolate mocha I've been savoring. You'll hug me goodbye, and I'll head home feeling encouraged, a weight lifted, and my heart warmed. I'll text you when I get home just to say thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to spend with me. Your friendship means the world to me, and I certainly don't take it for granted. Thanks for listening, for sharing, and for walking with me on this long and winding adventure called life.

FIVE THINGS YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT ME | VOL. 3

Hello friends! Welcome to another installment of facts about little old me. I figured that if you and I were real life friends, you'd probably know the the random things about me, the minute details, and the odd idiosyncrasies. In an effort to get to know one another better, here are a few things you might not know about me...

1 | I am an introvert.
Is this a surprise to you? Me too. Up until last year, I would always tell people I was an extrovert because that's what the test results always said! Truthfully, I think I've always been an introvert but paraded around as an extrovert for most of my life. However, my preference of introversion over extroversion is very slim. All I know is that I love people, but I need my alone time in order to recharge so that I can be around them again.

2 | Grocery stores are not for me.
I can't even explain to you how stressed I get about going to the grocery store. There are so many people reaching and grabbing for things, and I don't feel like I can ever find what I need. So I end up walking up and down every single aisle of the store. I swear those aisle signs don't tell the truth about what that aisle actually contains.

3 | I have always wanted to be in a musical.
Animated or real life...it doesn't matter to me. Musicals are my jam. Randomly breaking out into song? Singing everything that comes to mind? Count me in. Of course, I'd never make it on broadway because I have terrible stage fright, but a girl can still dream, right?

4 | Randomness is my forte.
Seriously, I should be given an award for this. Oh wait, I was. At the end of one of my summers at camp, my counselors gave me the "most wonderfully random" award. My life was complete. ;) One of my best friends always tells me that I'm a Marcel the Shell on the randomness scale. That's pretty high on the scale, in case you were wondering. I tend to spit out whatever is on my mind, which seems to come out of the blue to whoever is listening, but if you could see the way my brain works...I could tell you step by step how I got to that seemingly random thought.

5 | I am very animated.
According to my friends, I talk with my hands a lot and have awesome (note: not attractive) facial expressions. Basically, I need to be an animated Disney character, is what they are saying. ;) Also, when I get excited, it goes something like this.

WHAT'S ONE RANDOM FACT ABOUT YOU?

WEEKEND UPDATE

RECAPS
1 | DIY time. I received a copy of Happy Handmade Home in my Great Christmas Exchange package, and I am so looking forward to pouring over every single page. There are endless creative projects and ideas in there!

2 | Narnia lovers. Have you seen our TriStyle & Co. challenge for this month? We are styling the Narnia inspired tank from Jordandene. Buy an item of your choice from her shop and show us how you style it! You can get 20% off using the code FANGIRL2014.

3 | Rapunzel + glitter. I picked up this beauty of a Christmas ornament while I was at Disneyworld. I just love everything about Rapunzel. Her outlook on life, her pet chameleon, the fact that she wields a frying pan, and that she married Flynn Rider...just to name a few.

3 | Christmas forever. Or not. Our Christmas decorations came down over the weekend, but I'm pretty sure we were the last house in the neighborhood to put away the Christmas lights. I just like to keep them up forever and start referring to them as "winter lights" instead. :)

10 THINGS TO DO IN EPCOT

disney, walt disney world, epcot, disney world

The week before Christmas, three of my best friends and I headed to Disneyworld for one of the most fun-filled vacations I've ever had. I was four years old the last time I'd been at Disneyworld, so many things I didn't remember and much has changed since then! Over the next few weeks, I'll be giving you little recaps of our time at Disney, including my favorite rides, restaurants, sights, and shows. To get this party started, let me tell you about some of my favorite things in Epcot!

1 | EXPLORE THE WORLD SHOWCASE
Don't miss the chance to experience the cultures of eleven different countries in Epcot's World Showcase! Mexico, Norway, China, Germany, Italy, the U.S.A., Japan, Morocco, France, the United Kingdom, and Canada are just sitting there waiting for you to come visit. There are shops, restaurants, art galleries, rides, and nooks and crannies hidden all throughout the showcase. Fun fact: the employees who work in those eleven countries are actually from the particular country where they work! I thought that was super fun. Our waitress in Germany came over to work for Disney in 1983 when the World Showcase first opened, and she liked it so much she decided to stay! It was so fun meeting people like her from different countries and cultures. I'd love to spend a whole day meeting those Disney employees and listening to their stories.

disney, walt disney world, epcot

2 | EAT AT BIERGARTEN
Oh my goodness. We had several dinner reservations in Epcot, and I think our overall favorite experience was at Biergarten. In the middle of Germany, Biergarten is designed to portray a traditional Bavarian village where you can eat authentic German food and be entertained by a live band! We were there during Christmas time, and they played Silent Night while everyone in the restaurant sang along. It was beautiful!

3 | RIDE SOARIN'
This was one of my favorite rides when I was at Disneyland last year, and I was so excited to ride it again at Disneyworld! Soarin' takes you on a hand-glider flight above California. You'll get to experience many of the sights and delicious smells of California. If you can, I'd suggest using a Fastpass on this ride as the wait time tends to be long...but it's totally worth it even if you have to wait!

4 | ILLUMINATIONS: REFLECTIONS OF EARTH
This is a great evening show to wait around for at Epcot. It's full of lights, lasers, music, waterworks and fireworks! Grab a spot by the water around the World Showcase and enjoy the show!

5 | LIVING WITH THE LAND
Did you know that Disney has enormous greenhouses? This relaxing boat ride will take you on a tour of those greenhouses. It was so neat to see the innovative ways Disney is using to grow all kinds of foods! We were tempted to go a second time just so we could take everything in, but we had places to go and princesses to see. ;)

6 | AKERSHUS IN NORWAY
Dining with the princesses in Norway is one thing we did not get to do, but I wish we had! I hear it is magical, and it's definitely on my list of things to do on my next Disney adventure.

7 | EAT AT TEPPAN EDO
I love authentic Japanese cuisine, and I love it when they cook your food right in front of you! It's a fun and entertaining meal time for the whole family!

8 | RIDE THE MONORAIL
Hop on the monorail for a quick getaway to Magic Kingdom. On your way, you can stop by and explore the Contemporary resort!

9| HANG OUT WITH NEMO
The Nemo ride is cute and fun. It incorporates real fish and sharks and stingray in a tank with characters from Finding Nemo. After the ride, be sure to stick around to explore the aquarium. Watch out for jellyfish, visit the manatees, try to name as many fish as you can, and wave at the sea turtles. Then coo coo ca choo, find your way back to the big ol' blue. Raise your hands, Nemo fans. I know you're out there!

10 | TAKE A MILLION PHOTOS OF THE EPCOT BALL
You don't have to, but we did! We were at Epcot a lot and at various times during the day. The Epcot ball always looks different depending on the lighting and we were a little obsessed. Kind of like moths drawn to a flame... You've just got to take a picture every time you see it! ;)

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO EPCOT? WHAT WOULD YOU ADD TO THE LIST?
